Easy souttert

A traditional South African quiche-like bake. Yummy for brunch, served with a crunchy side salad.

4 slices of Blue Ribbon White Sliced Bread
2 tablespoons butter
½ onion, chopped
4 cheese chicken sausages, sliced
½ cup of mushrooms
½ cup cheddar cheese, grated
1 egg
1 cup of milk
2 tablespoons cake flour
Salt and black pepper
Cayenne pepper



1. Heat the butter in a saucepan on a medium heat. Add the onion and fry until golden brown. Add the sausages, mushrooms, seasoning and lightly fry until brown in colour. Add the cheese & mix well.
2. Place two slices of bread in a square ovenproof dish and spoon the mixture on top of the slices of bread. Cover with the two other slices of bread and create a sandwich.
3. Beat the eggs, milk and flour together and pour over the sandwiches. Sprinkle any leftover cheese on top.
4. Bake for 25 minutes at 180 degrees.
